Andre 3000 is exercising his acting chops in a new clip from the Jimi Hendrix biopic, All Is By My Side.
In the clip, Hendrix (Andre 3000) is seated at a New York restaurant with his friend and muse, Linda Keith (Imogen Poots), while future manager Michael Jeffery (Burn Gorman) attempts to convince him to move to London, where guitarists are playing music inspired by the blues.
But Hendrix is on the fence and Andre 3000 does a good job of making you believe him, twirling his hair and chewing his Doublemint gum.
“I don’t want to get caught up in those kind of labels, though,” Hendrix says. “I don’t want it to be, ‘Well OK, he’s playing the blues,’ or ‘He’s playing R&B or soul or whatever’ those cages, man…I want my music to go inside the soul of a person.”
The movie will tell the story of Hendrix’s road to stardom. Unfortunately, the Hendrix estate wouldn’t allow filmmakers to use any of the “Purple Haze” singer’s original music, so according to Rolling Stone, the movie focuses on the artist’s famous cover versions, including takes on the Beatles‘ “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Wild Thing,” written by Chip Taylor and made famous by The Troggs in 1966.
